I Became the Future of Fitness

By Ray Diaz · August 2026

Ray Diaz physical transformation, before and after

I played football for eleven years. Nine years old to twenty-one. That is the part of my life nobody asks about, and it is the part that explains everything that came after.

Because when you play a sport that long, your body is not a project. It is just how you live. Then football ended, and I was in Fort Myers building docks for Stokes Marine, working on the water with my hands. Still physical. Still an athlete. Just nothing to point it at.

Look at the pictures from that stretch. Twenty four years old, short hair, no tattoos, pale, standing there in board shorts. That is a kid who has been an athlete his whole life and has no idea what to do with it.

Then I started changing on purpose.

By twenty five I looked like a different person. Not a diet. A rebuild. Skin, hair, jaw, posture, the way I carried myself, nutrition, training, all of it deliberate. Between twenty five and thirty two I ran that project every single day. People see the after photo and think genetics. It was eight years of decisions.

And here is where it turned into a career, though I did not plan it that way.

I started booking commercials, and once you have a handful you notice the pattern. Macy's put me on a soccer field. Ford handed me a football. Xbox cast me for Kinect fitness. Michelob Ultra had me on battle ropes and barbell rows in one spot and benching in the other. Subway, Lexus, Amazon, Applebee's, Corona, Time Warner Cable, Harley-Davidson, and the U.S. Army, where I played Cruz and which is still the toughest role I have ever done. Eighteen national spots, and casting directors kept seeing the same thing in me.

The athlete was the product. I just had not named it yet.

Then in 2016 I started making Instagram comedy videos and passed a million followers in about three months. That was my back door into Hollywood. I could not get through the front, so I built a door out of what was then called new media.

December 15, 2016, Andy Frisella and 1st Phorm gave me my first sponsorship. A supplement company with a real reputation backed a working actor, not a gym personality. That combination did not exist yet.

So I built the next piece myself. At thirty two I started building on Fitplan. The first one was a ninety day functional training program, and I followed it with a four week strength and hypertrophy plan. Among the first influencer built fitness programs anywhere. Everybody does this now. Nobody did it then.

That is the sentence I want on the record. The future of fitness did not arrive through gyms or magazines. It arrived through social media, and I was one of the people who proved it could be done credibly, with real training, real brands, and an actual body of work behind it.

Eleven years of football. A dock crew. Eighteen commercials. Eight years of rebuilding myself. A supplement deal and a training program. It all points the same direction, and it is the story almost nobody knows.

I am telling it now because it is mine.
